Re: xdm in 4.2.0-0pre1v1

I am having the same problem. From /var/log/xdm-errors, I get

        xdm error (pid 1987): can't execute
                "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0" (err 2)

because xdm "only" includes

        /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xsetup

fixing that, I get something like

        xdm error (pid 1987): can't execute
                "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/GiveConsole" (err 2)

because it isn't there. Are these files supposed to be generated by a
setup program? Or hand created? Or is the problem caused by me
having the old 4.1.0-16 config files lying around? I tried
apt-get --purge remove xdm, followed by an install, but same result.

By the way, I have a Matrox G550 card (which is the reason for trying
out 4.2 in the first place), but during startup, X tries to load
kernel module "mga"? Exactly which kernel parameter should I set to
get this module? Or is it proprietary? My kernel 2.4.18 config includes

CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_VIDEO_SELECT=y
# CONFIG_MDA_CONSOLE is not set
CONFIG_FB=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX=y
# CONFIG_FB_MATROX_MILLENIUM is not set
# CONFIG_FB_MATROX_MYSTIQUE is not set
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_G100=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_G450=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_MULTIHEAD=y
# CONFIG_FBCON_ADVANCED is not set

which work nicely wrt. console frame buffers.
