Package: www.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

There are no external web links to the official project home pages of
each
package on http://packages.debian.org. I do not see why the Debian
project
should obscure the originators of the packages and I do not think that
there is any rational reason. Without these links you also do not know
where you can download the current source code without downloading the
deb file. Furthermore Debian takes credit for the packages/programmes
without having created them.

Ubuntu for example provides such links (see e. g.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/gnome/abiword) but Debian does not.
Also other distributions do not provide such links but I think Debian
could be a pattern to these distributions.

Statistics show there is a good amount of packages with such a link :

$ zgrep -c "^Homepage:" Sources.gz
5859
$ zgrep -c "^Package:" Sources.gz
12959

Raphael, on top of Adam's words, you can submit patches for the packages
that miss the "Homepage:" pseudo-field (the one used by
packages.debian.org to create a link to the upstream project).

Maybe a lintian warning would be relevant in order to convince
developpers to use this field.
Though, there are already :
http://lintian.debian.org/tags/description-contains-homepage.html
http://lintian.debian.org/tags/bad-homepage.html

See http://bugs.debian.org/444336 as well.

Me neither :-)
