I think the notes now in place are fine. (liw: that's in CVS. Will be online
in a matter of hours.)

Alfie: we shouldn't use ``'' for quoting, at least not on new commits
(fixing old stuff requires bothering with translations). The quotes are
differently slanted in newer fonts so they don't look good. <q> or simply "
should suffice.
