Re: Installing the Chinese web pages

Yeah Darren already answered this, but some clarification may be desired.

Once per day after the dinstall run. This was done to prevent loads of 60+
which used to happen when a number of cron jobs were run simultaneously.
Some of the big jobs on master are run from a run-parts on a directory
so that everything is done sequentially.

Master. At first it seemed it would be a good idea to do everything on va. The
reality is that the definitive archive, bug pages, list archive and a few
other things are on master so it was easier to do everything there.

You aren't the first to ask for this. First, the pages are accessable on
master first. Second, there is no point in updating the pages more than
once per day since they are only mirrored once per day. The pages are getting
too large to do updates more frequently. Third, setting it up to let other
people force an update on master is a pain (I thought it would be easy, but
hit a number of snags and decided I was wasting my time. Suid programs can
be a pain when you need to interact with other programs).

Could you give us an explanation of what is going in that section? I'd
like to get to the point where all languages are supported equally (in all
parts of Debian, except for general development). I understand that users
of multi-byte charsets don't have as full support as us single-byters
so there may be a need for some languages specific pages.

Option c. Small things, such as the corrections you've done so far should
just be committed. It is nice if people give a decent description in the log
so we don't need to scrutinize every change.

Other items can be discussed on debian-www. The two important issues are that
Darren and I know what is happening and that the pages stay functional.

Improvements that make it easier to keep translations up to date are most
welcome. There are definitely more places where information should be
extracted from the text so it can be updated without needing to bother
the translators. Also, we should probably handle english/templates/*
differently so we have more control on when changes are applied on
master.

I hope this is coherent. It is rather late.
