I used to read boatloads of science fiction, and as far as I still read
novels sometimes I do read some science fiction. I was a classic scifi fan
(Heinlein, Leinster, Sheckley, Asimov, Clarke) and then I fell in love with
Ballard. Later came Gibson and Sterling, then Stephenson. Greg Egan was a
stopgap measure till Stross and Doctorow came along. And then I all but
stopped reading fiction.
I watch practically all scifi that comes out, be it thoughty (Solaris) or
braindeady (Riddick), good (Battlestar Galactica) or bad (Episode III). In
huge spurts interspersed with bouts of non-watching activity.
I do agree that somehow literary and cinematographic scifi is, or has been
up to now, an entry point into this scifi world we live in.

men. (They're interested in this from a point of view of "entry into
