That's not quite true. The mentioned git repository was updated and commit b949a1c4647130202a7b9ff9c50cf1e30fbe454d had a lot of Debian updates from Rodolfo García Peñas (kix). Unfortunately kix has no time to be the official maintainer for the wmaker package in Debian as he has a lot of other packages.
So If you _do_ care about Windowmaker in Debian, you should change that by stepping up and help getting the package back in shape, probably by switching to the -crm branch as upstream project. (For those who are reading the Cc of this mail to the orphaning bug report, see http://bugs.debian.org/583734 for details.)
If there is someone willing to maintain this package, the -crm branch is IMHO the best starting point...
