I have created an updated package already for my need:
http://people.debian.org/~hertzog/packages/

This package is compliant to the new policy. I removed the useless split
between the media and the rest. The package is architecture all AFAICT,
there was no good reason to split it.

I improved/extended the description. I added recommends of python-psycopg,
python-sqlite and python-mysqldb. I used CDBS as it's very common within
the Debian Python Modules Team and it simplifies a lot the work.

I think the package is mostly ready as is, but you're welcome to further
enhance it and to double check everything.

Cheers,
