Debian has a constitution [0], a social contract [1], and further
guiding principles [2][3][4]. The social contract is signed by Debian
Developers. It states as a first point "Debian will remain 100% free".
You might want to learn how Debian operates, it might help addressing
the fears that you were speaking about.
