So far that's not looking likely...

If anyone's tossing up whether to nominate or not, here's some thoughts
to consider:

 - the DPL is the only person who can spend Debian's money (at SPI and
elsewhere) -- upgrades/repairs to hardware, travel expenses, booths
at conferences etc; without a responsive DPL, those things start
   falling apart

 - the DPL is often the preferred person to give talks/interviews
about Debian, especially straight after being elected

 - campaigning's often been adversarial, but there's no reason for it to
be -- you don't have to write rebuttals or say why your fellow nominees
suck; and whoever wins can easily share some/all of their responsibilities
   with other candidates

 - sharing DPL duties with other candidates is a bit easier than just
doing it with random people, because the rest of Debian's had a chance
to review them and express their opinion -- you know what areas they're
interested in, you know how they'll deal with complaints on lists,
and you have a fair idea if they're going to be controversial

 - ex-DPLs are often available to offer advice and suggestions about
how to do things; it's always the current DPL's choice how to act,
but you don't have to go it alone

 - having more candidates gives us a chance to review more ideas for what
to do over the next year -- even if they don't get done by the DPL
   (or at all)

 - we've got a release coming up during the next term, having one or more
DPL candidates who've already committed to doing what they can to
support the RM team and make sure it actually happens would at least
   make me more comfortable

If you only care about one part of DPLing, and are hoping whoever gets
elected will too, I'd personally suggest you nominate yourself now with
that as your platform -- if you end up winning, you can always delegate
all the other bits to your cohorts; if you end up losing, the winner's
probably at least addressed your issue, and if not at least it'll be
clear if the project thinks it's a good idea to delegate that bit of
DPLing to you.

Cheers,
aj
