Has this actually been established?

As far as I am aware Richard has only looked at vnstat, saw its docs
(or some other unspecified guide) talk about "eth0", noted he doesn't
have an "eth0", and stopped there, asking for better docs.

If there was any indication that his USB network device picks a new
MAC address every time, I have missed it. All I saw was Richard say:

…but I don't know if he means the interface name changed, or if he is
just repeating back what I told him when I said that the *index number*
showed that an interface had been created and destroyed many times.
Richard needs to clarify what he observes.

I think this is in danger of becoming one of those kinds of threads that
Richard is infamous for. I would suggest that he pursues using vnstat
until he finds it either fit for purpose or not, and if not tells us
exactly what the issue is, before we start trying in this thread to
solve any other problem he may or may not have.

Thanks,
Andy
