Perhaps Richard is overthinking this. vnstatd enumerates the network
interfaces available on the machine and collects data for all of them by
default. Therefore, in a typical use case, no configuration is necessary
whatsoever. However, if the machine transitions between different
networks (utilizing the same network interface, whether wired or
wireless) and the user wishes to monitor data usage across various
networks, that becomes more complicated.
