I have noticed the /.cache directory present on two of my machines that
are running desktop environments. It appears to be absent from my
headless server machines. The timestamp indicates it is from 2023, so I
assume it was created during bookworm. The directories are empty.

This machine has one from 2024-03-04. I don't know what happened then, but since this (12/Bookworm) is my first Debian version, something in this version is responsible.
