It's my terrible mistake. After installing the package firmware-iwlwifi, the command "ip link show" displayed the name of the wireless interface. (I thought I had installed firmware-iwlwifi on this machine but I was wrong. In fact I installed it on my sister's newer computer but not on this one.)
