Surely you meant ifupdown.

auto mac/ab:cd:ef:12:34:56/=eth0
iface eth0 inet static
  address 192.168.1.123/24
  gateway 192.168.1.1
  dns-nameservers 192.168.1.1


And there's a small bonus of having to enable systemd-networkd and
optionally systemd-resolved.
