There's a hack, but it's not pretty, and it has its share of limitations:
Host server
Hostname server
RemoteCommand TERM=xterm $SHELL
RequestTTY yes
A proper solution - [1] is kind-of sort-of made its way to the upstream,
but it's not included in Debian yet.
