Yeah, it sounds like that. But why is the same DNS lookup software fast on one machine and slow on another? Talking to the same DNS server? And why is there a problem displaying the routing table?

Duh. /etc/resolve.conf had, as the first line, a computer that no longer in exists. Slow is fast now. Thanks, Dan.
