It's much "worse" than that, even the Debian Policy Manual strongly 
recommends using 'set -e' in package maintainer scripts.

While the package maintainer scripts are arguably a somewhat special 
case, the rough consensus in Debian appears to be that 'set -e' should 
always be used in shell scripts (as the Debian Policy suggests).
