Hi Brad,

The solution to my issue was as Mr. Ritter suggested.  Seems like the AMDGPU Radeon drivers that come from Mesa & some firmware now have a dependency on Xorg, as stated below:

"The Xorg AMDGPU Driver package contains the X.Org Video Driver for newer AMD Radeon video cards starting from Volcanic Islands. It can also be used for Southern and Sea Islands if the experimental support was enabled in the kernel."

Running AMD Ryzen 7 here, without issue.  No Radeon GFX, but that has nothing to do with your issues.
