If it works it cannot be called "incorrect" in the first place.
It can be called "dangerous" or "inappropriate", but not "incorrect".

The user can to many dangerous things, starting with, say "rm -rf /*".

It does not work the way OP wanted it to work, which is what matters
here. I agree that the workaround that you've proprosed is cleaner.

What good is the advise that's given without understanding the specifics
of OP configuration?
