  often you can get quite a bit of space from the
package cache.

  as root use autoclean or clean (if you have a fast
connection where downloading packages goes quickly).

# apt-get autoclean

or 

# apt-get clean


  sorry about my mistake earlier as i did mean:

# apt-get install libc-bin --reinstall

  but you have to have free space on the 
device first.
