It was stated when Windows 10 was released that it would be the last
ever named/numbered version, implying that future revenues would come
from some sort of rent-seeking, as has happened with most of Office.
It's what Bill has always wanted to do, right from early DOS days. The
current infatuation with The Cloud isn't the first attempt to take
custody of peoples' data, just the first successful one.
