It's not about can do it or not. There are phone running with debian -
ubuntu has also a smart phone line ... firefox or whoever else. 
The question is about usability.
Have you had some of the phones in your hand? If you did, you should know
how useless they are - with market share below 0.1%.
The best ATM is Sailfish, but still not stable at 100%. I would say 93% for
usability and stability.

OP could have a look at ubuntu.
