Debian 9.2, VSphere 6.5.0, "TCP performance may be compromised"

I have a 9.2 system running in a VMware VM which receives the following message at startup which I've never seen before. The VMware network driver in use is VMXNET 3; the VMware tools daemon is running:

kernel: TCP: ens192: Driver has suspect GRO implementation, TCP performance may be compromised

There does not appear to be any actual networking or performance impact so far, but obviously this will be used eventually for higher-volume servers, so any performance impact is important. Does anyone have more info on this issue?
Thanks.....Nick
