The above is precisely my point, there is NOT a 

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost 

entry in anyones /etc/hosts file unless THEY PUT IT THERE.

So while I seem to have fixed the OP's problem, the fix is now masking 
the real problem (and I haven't a clue what the heck that actually is)
