I'm running RAID1 on cheap 1TB Seagates here with 4.1 kernel:
# hdparm -Tt /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 11880 MB in 2.00 seconds = 5944.19 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 492 MB in 3.01 seconds = 163.65 MB/sec
# hdparm -Tt /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb:
Timing cached reads: 15168 MB in 2.00 seconds = 7590.89 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 526 MB in 3.01 seconds = 174.82 MB/sec
My cables are not red and were shipped with my MSI motherboard around 17 months ago.
