I've got a SATA LG burner on a Supermicro box running Wheezy and XFCE4. XFCE's GUI burner program does BluRays like a champ. I let the software decide on the speed, and I don't remember what brand of disks I burn. But I got them from Amazon, so they're nothing extraordinary.
