What becomes of Canada and Mexico in that scenario??
A friend of mine suggested "United States of Puritania" for the demonymless
country between Canada and Mexico.

Maybe I'm just not creative enough.

If it was not a commonly accepted reference to the United States of America, there would
be no "America".

You would have 'American continents' plural. You would have 'The Americas' plural.

I can't think of a usage that makes sense to collectively refer to people from two
separate continents and a region of land that connects them as 'American'.

What am I missing?! ;)
