Debian-correct upgrade-safe way:
su -l <your_user> -c "ln -sf ~/MyFonts ~/.fonts"
Hackish you've-been-warned way:
Add "<dir>~/MyFonts</dir>" stanza into /etc/fonts/fonts.conf.
Second way is hackish *and* wrong because Keith Packard himself tells
you that from the comments of /etc/fonts/fonts.conf :)
