Ah -- as Thomas noted, you are looking at a shell, most probably
the bash.

There is extensive documentation on that, but of course this isn't
organized in a way to ease first steps, but rather as a manual.

Try to find a shell tutorial out there which suits you in style.
Have a look at [1] or [2].
