I personally am using an LSI SAS2008-based HBA with two HP MSA60
enclosures; I then run standard mdraid on top of that:
md2 : active raid6 sdl1[0] sdw1[11] sdv1[10] sdu1[9] sdt1[8] sds1[7] sdr1[6] sdq1[5] sdp1[4] sdo1[3] sdn1[2] sdm1[1]
29301335040 blocks super 1.2 level 6, 512k chunk, algorithm 2 [12/12] [UUUUUUUUUUUU]
md0 : active raid6 sda1[0] sdk1[10] sdj1[9] sdi1[8] sdh1[7] sdg1[6] sdf1[5] sde1[4] sdd1[3] sdc1[2] sdb1[1]
26371201536 blocks super 1.2 level 6, 512k chunk, algorithm 2 [11/11] [UUUUUUUUUUU]
Individual drives are all SATA.
If you have smaller numbers of drives, then a standard SATA HBA is
probably good enough.
Obviously, this set up is not that quick.

Show me your flowcharts and conceal your tables, and I shall continue
to be mystified. Show me your tables, and I won't usually need your
flowcharts; they'll be obvious.
