I know it will be broken but I don't know enough debian sysadmin to
manage rescue stuff...yet. Right now, running off a VM. Is there
something that I can read to familiarise myself as to what to do when
things go kaput?

I'm just about familiar with the apt tools not what you'd call an
expert or deeply experienced on it. Again, something to read up would
be nice and I'd hare off to read it before I hose my debian instance
completely.

Thanks again, for your reply.
