Certainly. The 'essential' package "init" depends on systemd-sysv
(systemd) OR sysvinit-core (SysV) OR upstart. Any of these should be
capable of booting the system.

If you're using systemd, then you're on either testing or unstable, so
you should expect some issues during a transition.

If you'd prefer stability, stick with stable (wheezy).

Potato was version 2.2 and was declared End-of-Life in Jun 2003. There
have been no updates to Potato for ten years and I am certain there
won't be any more.
