I'd recommend you thoroughly study xorg.conf(5), evdev(4) and xinput(1) and xset(1). Especially the option "AccelerationProfile" seems interesting. 6 seems to work fine for my TrackPoint, my mouse uses the X default (0 according to /var/log/Xorg.0.log).
