Presumably you should look at the full output of glxinfo, sections
'server glx extensions' and 'client glx extensions'.

GNOME3 (its' window manager mutter actually) depends on certain GLX
extensions, and your daughter's Debian lacks them.

And Xorg may 'lack the skill' to use this capability fully. See this,
