Hi -- I can confirm this works on stable with xfce and lightdm to do
exactly that:

~$ sudo adduser richard-work

Then ctrl-alt-F1 [F2, etc]; login as richard-work;
Then ~$ DISPLAY=:1 startx -- :1    # launches your 2nd display manager
session

Switch between X sessions with ctrl-alt-F7 / F8 keys (for me).
