How do you get that impression? You can definitely install a Debian
System including Iceweasel and Icedove with amd64 _only_. My user agent
is likely to be "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101
Icedove/24.5.0" or such. Just to make sure:

~$ aptitude show icedove

It must be included, because I have installed it using Debian sources
only (also cf. https://packages.debian.org/wheezy/amd64/python2.7/download):

As others already suggested, you are likely to use a mixed AMD64 + i386
system which confuses the automatic installation of Virtualbox' kernel
modules.

You could start by comparing your sources.list and architecture using

$ apt-cache policy

Pinned packages:

$ dpkg --print-architecture

with some expected standard output like mine (except for the MDVL-stuff
of course).

Hope that helps more than my previous answer
