I will give it a go.

Download the netinstall .iso file for the Debian version you want. Check
the authenticity of the .iso file with md5sum

Then, using whatever application you use to burn CD's:

Make it burn image to CD and select the netinstall.iso in the directory
you have downloaded it to.

Make certain your BIOS will allow you to boot from a CD, leave the CD
in the optic drive and reboot the computer.

Then read the instructions and do as you feel. You say you know Linux
stuff. Do an expert install and once you have everything done and GRUB
installed and it has configured itself.

Remove the CD, reboot your computer and install the packages you want.

Hope that helps.

A little different, bit of work before this, if you want a dual boot
system.
