Is it normal for any laptop to fail in fewer than five years, or is
such a failure rate unique to Lenovo's laptops?
My last laptop was a Lenovo, but not a Thinkpad. It died at just under three years of life. I was pretty hard on it, but I did expect more than three years.
I'd say five years is the most you can expect from any laptop. Anything more is "gravy."
