This is probably intentional. MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) is designed
for transferring digital media between systems. Looking at the wikipedia
page, it seems perfectly reasonable that the android device is only
showing you paths where it believes it has media files (as indexed by
the "Media Storage" service, probably).

As to why windows sees it differently to linux, I'm not sure.
