Actually, I fail to see why a power outage would have any negative
effect on an HDD (e.g. why would the "head crash"?).

Also, if you use a journalling file system, a power loss should not cause
any file system corruption, nor require fsck.  Of course, that's the
theory, which makes many assumptions some of which may not be verified,
but still, I'm curious why you need fsck and see such filesystem corruption.
