You would get "bash: ./MOPAC2012.exe: Permission denied" if the
permissions would be wrong.

What is the output of

ls -l /opt/mopac/MOPAC2012.exe

and

ls -l /opt/mopac

?

I doubt that it's in /opt/mopac
