My apologies for the delay in sending this. Had to go out of town on
business.

My mistake. The 2.6 packages I saw were dummy packages.

The problem was solved by installing the
linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-686-pae kernel. Didn't
have to resort to Xorg.
