motion: problem finding codec



Hello,

Today out of the blue, the 'motion' (ver 3.2.12-3.2) application on my
Debian Testing (kernel 3.2.0-3-amd64) box has stopped working. It
appears as if it cannot find the necessary av codec.

It doesn't matter what video output format I choose (avi, flv, swf,
etc.), or if I run it with "sudo motion", the error is the same:
avcodec_open - could not open codec: Invalid argument
[1] ffopen_open error creating (new) file
[/usr/local/motionvideo/01-20121020213958.swf]: Invalid argument

Can somebody suggest how to troubleshoot this one?

The console has the following lines when I start up motion:
