Squeeze and bitmapped fonts

Dear gurus,

I need to run an application which uses a few fonts that are installed
with the application itself.
The application runs normally in a RedHat box, but when I try to run
it in a debian box (same install with same path, and same user
profile, both mounted via NFS, with authentication via NIS), I get an
error message:

----------------------------------
FATAL ERROR from X-windows: XFT available, but not working with PCF
bitmap fonts.
Please check your FontConfig configuration, possibly bitmap fonts are
explicitly disabled.
XFT-type font not found:
t32:style=sys:pixelsize=13:fontformat=PCF:antialias=false:hinting=false
CONFIG: '/opt/case/emulator/lauterbach/t32_201203/config.t32'
(resolved to '/tools/case/emulator/lauterbach/t32_201203/config.t32')
T32SYS: '/opt/case/emulator/lauterbach/t32_201203/' (environment variable)
T32EXE: '/tools/case/emulator/lauterbach/t32_201203/bin/pc_linux/t32mppc'
----------------------------------

"xlsfonts | grep t32" returns nothing in both machines.
I have already runned "dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config fontconfig",
and selected to enable bitmap fonts by default, and I have already
rebooted the machine after that, but got the same error.
I'm running vanilla 32 bits squeeze, in a x86 box.

Any hints?
Best regards,
Joao
