On the contrary, it helps to keep the thread in a clearer state for

Fine. Then it can be a problem localized/triggered in/by Evince.

Mmm... that looks like a PCL3 driver coming from hplip.

You don't have to *edit* the current printer instance but *adding* a new 
one with the desired PS driver.

Well, yes, that's what I meant but better than choosing PCL is using a 
PostScript driver, it will provide the best results for your printouts.

So it seems. But it can be just a weird incompatibility between the main 
three actors of the play: evince + ppd file + pdf document.

That's the file you should be using for the printer (PS), but my guess is 
that you've selected "hp-laserjet_p2055dn-pcl3.ppd" instead.
