What do you see in alsamixer when (alsamixergui?  I don't know what that
is) when you press F4 (capture devices)?  You must set the microphone as
the capture device; if that's already been done, then I'm stumped.

Have you tried gstreamer-properties to test your config?  Audio
tab/Default input/Test, and then you speak into your microphone and it
echos it back to you with a slight delay (which is a tautology because an
echo of course implies a delay, but you get the picture).
