How about making it more verbose?

ntfs-3g -o debug /dev/sda2 /mnt

Nope, doing so is getting no output again.

Nothing? Wow... look:

root@debian:~# ntfs-3g -o debug /dev/sdb1 /mnt
FUSE library version: 2.8.5
nullpath_ok: 0
root@debian:~# Version 2011.1.15AR.4 external FUSE 28
Mounted /dev/sdb1 (Read-Write, label "SYSTEM", NTFS 3.1)

Something looks very broken with your packages :-?

But look at the strace output (only last lines)

(...)

--- SIGCHLD (Child exited) @ 0 (0) ---
umount("/mnt", MNT_DETACH) = 0

It mounts and then umounts the share? >:-?

I would try by reinstalling ntfs-3g packages...
