You aren't using a sound server, but you use ALSA directly.
I wonder if you've got access, since ALSA Device nodes permissions are
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 6 Jul 5 08:51 /dev/snd/...
Perhaps the user needs to be member of the group audio.
