Here is what I would do:

Try installing a plugin package like 
<http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=sun+java+plugin&searchon=names&suite=all&section=all>, 
and lookout for <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=560056>.

... and it has worked for me.
