Dear list -

I am trying to install squeeze from Debian-6.0.1a-i386-CD-1.iso. The installation fails with the message "The CD-ROM" does not contain a valid Release file".

Here are some details of the system:

Dell Optiplex 260
2 GB RAM
1.4 GB Pentium 4
40 GB blank hard drive.

I am a newbie, so please walk me thru this.

maybe tthere's a problem with the installer. Please check its md5sum (installer ISO before burning to a blank CD)

e.g: your downloading http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/6.0.1a/i386/iso-cd/debian-6.0.1a-i386-CD-1.iso, so its md5sum (from http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/6.0.1a/i386/iso-cd/MD5SUMS) should be

b0307432f0af51c2e821c8075907d171
